Jenny, President and Founder
Jenny has many years of experience working in animal rescue and conducting animal cruelty investigations. She lives at the sanctuary, providing full-time care and enrichment to all of the residents. Jenny is deeply involved in community outreach to help educate the public about the plight of roosters, and she routinely organizes rescue operations for abandoned and injured animals. Jenny selflessly spends all of her time and resources doing everything in her power to create a better world for the animals. Rooster Haus Rescue would not exist without her hard work and dedication.
Ashley, Vice President
Ashley started volunteering at Rooster Haus Rescue in 2019 when she learned about our weekly work parties from mutual friends. Over the next year, she came out to the sanctuary almost every weekend, helping us build better enclosures and spending time with the residents. Ashley joined the board of directors in February 2020. She continues to help out at the sanctuary on weekends, manages our website and social media, responds to inquiries, and steps in wherever extra help is needed.
Charles, Treasurer
Charles has been volunteering or working in animal rescue since 2004 but didn’t intersect with the rooster world until 2022. He was invited to a work party and fell in love with the animals and the organization. Charles joined the board in September 2022 as Secretary to utilize his long-time non-profit experience and business management education to aid the organization. In January 2024, Charles accepted the new position as board Treasurer.
Steisha, Secretary
Steisha has been loving, speaking to, and caring for animals in need and in nature since childhood. When she moved to Seattle in 2017, she found passionate activism and volunteer groups that deepened her connection with animals and her drive to help them. Steisha joined a Rooster Haus Rescue work party in January 2022 and has been in love with chickens ever since. She joined the Board two years later, bringing experience in project management, strategic planning, committee management, budgeting, and fundraising.
Eryn
Inspired by living for 10 years with a beloved rescued house rooster who had been dumped after a hatching project, Eryn discovered Rooster Haus Rescue in 2019. As a STEM teacher for over 15 years, she understands the importance of education, outreach, and fundraising in creating positive change in the world. Eryn and her spouse run a microsanctuary for indoor chickens, specifically focusing on bantams and their unique care needs. As the happy adopter of a number of Rooster Haus alunmi, Eryn is excited to find new ways to further the mission of creating a future free of harm and full of love for roosters and all non-human people. She joined the board of directors in January 2022.
Summer
Summer has been involved in the animal advocacy community for 10 years, organizing a grassroots activist group in Portland, volunteering at farmed animal sanctuaries across the Pacific Northwest and Southern California, and walking dogs at her local shelter while hosting bake sales and adoption events. She started fostering for RHR in 2021 and has helped with rescues, transport, and work parties. In August 2022 she joined the Board to support their events and fundraising efforts all while being a mom to her preschooler, Linden.
Lucy
Lucy joined Rooster Haus Rescue in the fall of 2021 as an animal caretaker employee, bringing with her the experience of previous sanctuary work and her love for animals. During and after her employment with RHR, Lucy assisted with offsite rescue operations, fostered several animals, and adopted two quails. After moving out of state, Lucy joined the Board of Directors in the summer of 2023 to support our grant-writing efforts.
Anya
Anya is a hairstylist, a mama to two rescued chihuahuas, a creative who spends her free time working on hands-on projects, and an ethical vegan since 2013. She joined Rooster Haus Rescue’s Board of Directors in April 2024 in her pursuit to help the vegan cause by putting her business, marketing, and networking skills to use. Anya helps with fundraising, event planning, and anywhere else that help is needed.
Susana
Susana has a long history working in dog rescue in Texas. After moving to Washington, she became involved with Rooster Haus Rescue, helping with vet transports and donations of much-needed supplies, attending events, and volunteering at work parties. She joined the Board of Directors in May 2024 to help with event planning. Susana keeps busy with her family including a 2.5 year old grandson and two dogs.
Jaime
Jaime has been working and volunteering with nonprofits for the last 20 years, with a focus on underserved communities and youth. She believes all animals bred by humans deserve safe and caring homes. Jaime first learned about Rooster Haus several years ago and was deeply moved by the mission and has enjoyed attending events at the sanctuary with her family and friends. She looks forward to providing ongoing support as a member of the board, helping Rooster Haus continue to work towards the mission of ending animal abuse and exploitation and educating others about the greatness of these creatures.
